I'd like to introduce you to Desiree. She is an amazing tan/light blue color pit bull who has the most tragic story and if I wasn't as stressed out as I am I would likely not be able to type it out without getting teary. She needs a new foster that is home. Her current foster family has had a major life change in that her foster momma headed back to work, and instead of being home with her foster momma most of the day, she now finds herself stuck in a kennel which she absolutely hates. (Read More)football and cheerleading and other activities and then they get home have dinner and go to bed. Desi needs and deserves more. She's currently located in Salisbury NC although transportation can be worked out. This really is urgent as she's hurting herself to get out of her kennel. She is looking for new FOSTER or better yet, A FOREVER HOME!!! Here is her story: Desi was saved by AC with her canine brothers and sisters from a hot car. Upon being seized by AC they found that the dogs were in incredibly poor condition. Further investigation exposed that the dogs had lived their entire short lives on a chain with no shelter or access to food or fresh water. Her 'owner' was charged with animal neglect. She was stuck in the shelter for days scared, confused and ALONE. A volunteer at the SC shelter she was at reached out for help for her as she was not only starving, scared and confused, she was also PREGNANT. We were thrilled to take her into rescue. She was just as skinny as her pictures showed, but what her pictures didn't show is how absolutely sweet she was. Despite the fact that humans had let her down in every possible way, she solely wanted love and attention. After about 2 weeks in foster, receiving sub-q fluids multiple times because she was too weak to walk, and her awesome foster doing her best to get some weight on her bones, she went into labor. She had 7 pups. They were INCREDIBLY small, unfortunately they were too small to survive. All of her pups passed away despite her foster mom and the vets best efforts, they weren't properly developed likely due to lack of nutrients and the shelter giving her a 4-1 vaccine not realizing that she was pregnant because of how incredibly malnourished she was. Desi spent the following 2 weeks searching for her babies and collecting every stuffed animal in the house and taking them to her foster momma's closet which she had decided what the best and safest place for her and her 'babies' to be. Slowly but surely with a lot of love and compassion from her foster family she began to recover. However she wasn't gaining weight like she should have been. She went back to the vet (she was quite the frequent flyer at this point) and was tested and diagnosed with a tick born virus that she contracted during her short life spent on a chain. Her recovery since being treated for the tick born illness is night and day. She is a completely different dog. She's bouncy and funny, she's still sweet as can be but has a different light in her eyes, a little glimmer that makes you smile just to look at her. Unfortunately for Desi she now finds herself in DESPERATE need of a new foster home. Her foster momma had to go back to work and instead of being home all day with her Desi now finds herself in a kennel and she is beyond unimpressed with the life change. Whether the kennel location is inside or outside she can get out of the kennel and is now a serious safety risk to herself. We are desperate to find her a new foster with someone who can give her the attention she craves and deserves. She's not destructive, she just has a bit of separation anxiety, and really, after all she's been through, who can blame her? Are you home during the day? Do you love sweet pretty dogs? Would you be willing to help Desi learn that she can trust humans and she will never be neglected again? Desi is spayed, up to date on shots microchipped, dog friendly, and adores everyone. Seriously she's so incredibly sweet. Her only flaw is something that isn't at all her fault. We are worried that she will hurt herself, more than she already has, or even fatally harm herself trying to break out of her kennel. Please consider fostering or adopting this sweet girl, I promise that it will be worth it! (Less)
